On April 30, Lumbini Confucius Classroom, in collaboration with China Harbour Engineering Company Regional Office, officially launched a new Chinese language training program for local employees in Sri Lanka.

The opening ceremony was attended by Mr. An Xin, Executive General Manager of the Regional Company, Ms. Wang Fei, Chinese Director of Lumbini Confucius Classroom, Mr. Amarajewa, Sri Lankan Director of Lumbini Confucius Classroom, along with teacher representatives and participants of the program.

Nearly 40 local employees joined the first session through both online and offline participation.

As the key academic support institution for this program, Lumbini Confucius Classroom utilized its expertise in international Chinese language education to carefully organize the teaching team and develop a structured curriculum. Notably, this training program is the first Chinese language course in Sri Lanka to adopt the newly updated HSK 3.0 teaching materials, marking an important milestone for Chinese language education in the country.

The course focuses not only on building strong language foundations, but also on improving practical communication skills. Through an integrated “Chinese + Culture” teaching approach, students are introduced to Chinese history, cultural traditions, etiquette, and festivals while learning the language, helping participants strengthen their cross-cultural understanding.

Learning is like rowing upstream, not to advance is to drop back. (学如逆水行舟,不进则退。)

Literal Translation:

“Learning is just like sailing against the current; if you don’t advance, you will be driven back.

During the opening ceremony, Ms. Wang Fei highlighted that the Chinese language is not only a communication tool, but also an important bridge for understanding Chinese culture. She further emphasized that Lumbini Confucius Classroom will continue to improve teaching methods and course content to support the development of international Chinese education in Sri Lanka and provide high-quality language and cultural training for local employees of Chinese enterprises.

Looking ahead, Lumbini Confucius Classroom aims to further strengthen cooperation with Chinese companies operating in Sri Lanka, actively contribute to local talent development, and explore diversified training models that combine Chinese language learning with professional development opportunities.

Through these initiatives, Lumbini Confucius Classroom continues to support cultural exchange, people-to-people connectivity, and the long-term friendship between China and Sri Lanka.
