19th Chinese Bridge Competition – Foreign Secondary School Students

On April 26, 2026, the semi-final round of the 19th “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Secondary School Students and the 2nd “Colombo Port City Cup · Chinese Bridge” Competition for the Sri Lanka Division was successfully held at the Colombo Port City Sales Gallery Exhibition Hall.

The competition was organized by the Embassy of China in Sri Lanka and jointly hosted by Lumbini Confucius Classroom together with China Harbour Colombo Port City Pvt. Ltd. A total of 50 secondary school students who qualified through the preliminary round participated in this stage of the competition, representing schools and regions from across Sri Lanka.

This year’s semi-final competition consisted of three segments: speeches, a knowledge quiz, and talent performances.

During the morning speech session, contestants delivered speeches based on the theme “Chasing Dreams Through Chinese, Living Youth to the Fullest.” Students shared their personal experiences learning Chinese, spoke about their cultural discoveries, and reflected on how learning the language has positively influenced their lives and future goals.

The knowledge quiz segment focused on Chinese language usage and Chinese cultural knowledge. Contestants answered questions one by one in an organized and engaging atmosphere, demonstrating both their language abilities and understanding of Chinese culture.

In the afternoon talent performance session, participants showcased a wide range of talents including singing, dancing, musical instrument performances, calligraphy, and painting. Special highlights included clarinet performances, erhu performances, and a Chinese opera performance of “Birds on the Tree in Pairs,” which added diversity and excitement to the event.

The competition provided an excellent platform for Chinese language learners from different parts of Sri Lanka to meet, exchange experiences, and showcase their learning achievements. It also encouraged students to continue pursuing Chinese language studies and cultural exploration in the future.

At the end of the competition, 20 outstanding contestants were selected to advance to the Sri Lanka National Final, which will be held next month.

Lumbini Confucius Classroom continues to actively promote Chinese language education and cultural exchange opportunities for Sri Lankan youth, helping build stronger educational and cultural connections between Sri Lanka and China.
